There are three types of joints present in human body. They are–

a) Immovable joints

b) Partially movable joints

c) Freely movable joints

a) Immovable joints

In this type of joints no movement is possible between the bones.

Ex the structure between the bones of the skull box.

b) Partially movable joints

In this type of joint the movement is possible to some extent, or in simple words very little movement is only possible between two bones.

Ex the joint between a rib and the breast bone or between the vertebrae.

c) Freely movable joints

In this type of joints, varying degrees of movement is possible between the two bones forming the joint.

This joint is divided into four types

  • Gliding joint
  • Pivot joint
  • Hinge joint
  • Ball and socket joint.
