1.One of the major reasons behind classifying nomadic, semi-nomadic tribal and pastoral groups as criminals was to stop them from working as informants to the freedom fighters.

2.For over three decades, the Munda sardars of Chhotanagpur had been struggling against the destruction of their system of common land-holdings by the intrusion of jagirdars, thikadars( revenue farmers) and traders-moneylenders.

3.This is because the British took away all the resources of the tribals and charged very high taxes from their small land. Even the mini heritage were ruined by them.

4.The uprising of the Santhals began as a reaction to end despotic British revenue system, usury practices, and the zamindari system in India; in the tribal belt of what was then known as the Bengal Presidency.
