Palm is monocotyledonous plant yet it is increasing in girth

Explanation:-

  • A palm tree is a monocotyledonous plant and, like all other monocots, the vascular bundles in the stems do not have a primary cambium.
  • However, with age, the tree grows in diameter, although slowly, as a result of the growth of ground tissue.
  • A secondary cambium may form in the hypodermal region of the stem. Later on, conjunctival tissue and patches of meristematic cells are formed.
  • Secondary vascular bundles are formed as a result of the activity of meristematic cells.
