Best Answer: The property of an object is neither changes its present state nor it tends to change the present state, is called inertia.
The property of inertia is because of the mass of body. The greater the mass, the greater is the inertia of body. Thus, a lighter body has less inertia than a heavier body. If the mass of the body is more, it is more difficult to move the body from rest . It is also more difficult to change the speed and direction of motion of a moving body. Thus mass is a measure of inertia.
When the person is sitting inside a train, his complete body was in a state of motion with the train. The moment he jumps out of the moving train, his feet touches the ground, and the lower portion of his body comes to rest. But the upper portion remains in motion due to inertia of motion. That's why he falls in the direction of motion of the train. To avoid this, the person should run in the direction of motion of the train for some distance after he jumps out of the train. Then he will not fall down.

Initially, both the person & the moving vehicle in a state of motion.
When the person jumps out of a moving vehicle, the lower part of the person's body comes to rest on touching the ground.
The upper part of his body tends to remain in a state of motion due to its inertia of motion.
As a result, the person jumping out of the moving vehicle may fall forward.
