this is because of continous usage , the wire loses its elasticity and does not regain its original configuration. this is why it shows wrong readings. Hope this helps!

The spring is an example of restraining force and its mechanism. Spring works on the principle of elasticity.
Therefore, spring has a spring constant and is applied by force according to which stretches itself to a length. As soon as the force is released, the length acquired is vanished and it comes back to its original position.
Same occurs in spring balance, on putting the weight, spring stretches and on removal of the weight, spring comes backs to original position.
After long use, the elasticity of the spring is lost, or starts to loose, therefore the length stretched is never regained to its original position and thus, the spring balance starts to give wrong measures.
