Aluminium is quite reactive, when it is kept in air or oxygen for some time, the upper surface get converted into its oxide called aluminium oxide (Al2O3), which gets deposited as a thin coating on the surface of the metal. ... Therefore, this metal is used for packing food articles which do not get spoiled in the foil.

Aluminum is especially used because of the following reasons:
-Its high reactivity leads to formation of aluminum oxide when it reacts with oxygen. The aluminum oxide prevents it from further corrosion as it acts as a protective layer. The reaction that takes place is as follows:

4Al + 3O2 -------> 2Al2O3

- Aluminum is also used because it is a good conductor of heat.
-Aluminum is also relatively cheap and that is why it is used widely in making utensils.
