1) Seasonal Reversal of wind direction take place over the Indian subcontinent because in winter there is a high pressure area in north of the Himalayas & there is a low pressure area over the ocean to the south. ... This causes a complete reversal of the direction of wind during summer and rise of Southwest monsoon.

2) The rainfall received by India is largely due to the south-west monsoon winds. As these winds blow over warm oceans, they bring abundant moisture to the subcontinent. ... The duration of the monsoon is between 100 to 120 days. Hence, the bulk of rainfall received by the country is concentrated over a few months.

3)In winters, it receives rainfall due to the northeast trade winds. They are offshore winds which blow from land to sea but due to India's topography, they change direction and flow over the Bay of Bengal and pick up moisture.

4) The delta region of the eastern coast is frequently struck by cyclones because the stromy activities which emerge at the Andaman Sea and normally they cross the Eastern Coasts of India. They are very destructive and result in heavy rains. They cause huge loss of life and property.

5) Parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and the leeward side of the Western Ghats are drought prone because they receive scanty rainfall. Even during the monsoon months the monsoon winds when rising over the Western Ghats give rain to that area.
