Give reason as to why the atomic radii of elements increase in a group while moving from top to bottom ?

Hey !!!

-------------------------

Atomic radii ( Atomic size ) increases down the group because of the successive increase in the number of shells

For Example - in alkali metals

Hydrogen - 1 ( 1 shell)

Lithium - 2 , 1 ( 2 shells )

Sodium - 2 , 8 , 1 ( 3 shells )

potassium - 2 , 8 , 8 . 1. (4 shells )

AS THE NO OF SHELLS IS INCREASING AS ON MOVING DOWN IN THE GROUP SO THE ATOMIC SIZE IS ALSO INCREASING ....

Down the group the atomic number of elements increase
So the electrons increased will be added to new shells henceforth increasing the atomic size as the shell number increases
