Due to the presence of HCl which is a strong acid. HCl has a strong pH of 1.5 to 3.5. It acts on food and digests it. HCl contains Pepsin and Rennin which digest protien.

Digestion of the food materials is what are the most important biological activities in the human body which occurs inside our stomach.
The gastric juice which is acidic in nature contains high amount of HCl or hydrochloric acid which makes this juice acidic in nature.
And due to this HCl containing gastric juice the food materials get acidic in our stomach.
