Give reason for the existence of three states of matter.

Explanation:

The three states of matter exist due to the difference in the inter-molecular force of attraction between the molecules of the substance.

When the inter-molecular force of attraction is stronger and molecules are close-bound, then the matter exists as solid.

When the inter-molecular force of attraction is strong but the molecules are less rigidly bound then the matter exists as liquid.

Lastly, when the inter-molecular force of attraction is weak and the molecules are very weakly bound then the matter exists as gaseous.

We know that solid, liquid and the gaseous state of matter are the most commonly found states of matter. These states are physically quite distinct from each other primarily due to the following two factors:

1). Inter-particle force.

2). Inter-particle spaces.

Thus, the three states of matter exist because the magnitude of inter-particle force and the amount of inter-particle spaces in all the three states of matter are different.
