Answer:

Central Maharashtra receives lesser rainfall than west Maharashtra.

This is because it is located on the leeward side of Western Ghats.

Monsoon Winds usher in the Indian subcontinent and strikes the Western Ghats.

This obstructs their flow and hence the windward side gets the normal rainfall.

As the winds cross the Western Ghats area, it gets drier and therefore central Maharashtra receives scanty rainfall.

Answer:

Central Maharastra receives less rainfall than Western Maharastra because

  • Central Maharastra lies in the rain shadow area of Western ghat

  • a rain shadow area is a area which lies on the opposite side of the relief Structure during the upcoming monsoon moisture laden winds

  • Western Maharastra whereas les on the windward side of the western ghats

  • a windward side is the side of a relief which lies in the path of the monsoon moisture laden winds so that the most of the moisture is drained on this side

  • therefore windward side ( western Maharastra) receives more rainfall than (Central Maharastra)
