Give reason for the following:-
(1) pain caused due to An ant's sting get relieved by rubbing baking soda solution at the place of string.
(2) When carbon dioxide gas is passed into lime water' it turns milky.

( 1 ) It is because an ants sting consist of acid and baking soda is basic in nature so when they both react they will neautrilise each other hence reducing the pain

( 2 ) Carbon dioxide (CO2) turns lime water milky due to the formation of insoluble calcium carbonate, CaCO3. Sulphur dioxide (SO2) also does the same, but slowly, as it reacts with calcium hydroxide to form insoluble calcium sulphite.

When an ant bites, it injects the acidic liquid (formic acid) into the skin. The effect of the acid can be neutralised by rubbing moist baking soda (sodium hydrogencarbonate) or calamine solution, which contains zinc carbonate
