The reason for presence of chimneys is as follows -

• The chimneys are fitted in factors to expel hot gases or smokes. The latter being hot and less denser than air, rise up and rush out of the chimneys.
• The fitted chimneys are longer in length to help expel them at large distance from ground. This is done to avoid their harmful effects on life existing on land.
