Reasons for the following :-
(i) The cells of meristematic tissue have dense cytoplasm, thin walls and prominent nuclei.
Meristematic cells have a prominent nucleus and a dense cytoplasm but lack a vacuole, this is so because meristematic cells have an ability to divide and form new cell. Vacuoles have a function of storing food and other nutrients that a cell might need to survive.
(ii) Vacuoles are absent in the cells of this tissue.
Meristematic cells divide frequently and give rise to new cells and hence they need dense cytoplasm and thin cell wall. Vacuoles causes hindrance in cell division as it is full of cell sap to provide turgidity and rigidity to the cell. ... Meristematic cells do not need to store these nutrients as they have compact shape.
