Sportsman wear shoes fitted with spikes to increases the friction force between their shoes and earths surface. So, that they provide a better grip and no slide during running.

If they do not wear spikes shoes they don't provide a better grip and chance of falling is more.

Friction it is an opposition force which act between the surfaces of a body and opposes the motion of a body over other.

Friction is a necessary Evil.

It always opposes the motion.
