Mechanical weathering is influenced by external forces whereby there are physical breakdown as a result of activities such as human activities on the earths surface .Rocks breakdown to smaller particles whereby they eventually move by agents such as wind and water that move them from one place to the other.

Rocks on the surface and beneath the surface are affected depending on magnitude of the activities that take place on the earth.

Mechanical weathering breaks rocks into smaller pieces without changing their composition. Ice wedging and abrasion are two important processes of mechanical weathering. Chemical weathering breaks down rocks by forming new minerals that are stable at the Earth's surface.
