Water will become more dense as its temperature is lowered until it reaches its maximum density at 4° C. One of the unique properties of water is that it becomes less dense as its temperature decreases from 4° C until it freezes at 0° C. Hence, only top layer fridges and below this layer water remains liquid. This allows many aquatic life forms to survive through the winter.

In cold regions the tem falls below 0 degree the tem of pond falls down as the tem falls down the water's tem decreases and start sinking down. This process continue till the tem of water fall upto 4 degree. As the tem start falling bellow 4 degree. the water starts expanding insted of contracting and floating of ice take place.and ice layer is formed. Ice is heat resistive. the tem below is 4 degree only. hence marin life can survive
