Nitrogen has 3 valence shell electrons and therefore forms N2 molecule by sharing 6 electrons (3 by each N atom.).
Phosphorus has valency 2 ,therefore it shares electrons (forms covalent bonds) with 2 more P atoms and form a ring to complete each other's octect.
