The Northern portion of India does not have the midday sun nearly vertically overhead while the southern part has the mid-day sun nearly vertically twice a year.
• The reason is that the Tropic of Cancer divides the Indian sub-continent into two areas- the temperate area and the Tropical area.
• The northern portion of India which lies in the Temperate Zone bears cold winter season and the hot weather season.
• The southern portion of the country which lies in the Tropical zone bears hot season with no clear cut winter season and the Sun shines vertically above at least twice during any part of the year.
