Answer:

To explain:

Objects fall vertically downwards on the Earth surface instead of falling at an angle to the vertical or doesn't fly off in the horizontal direction

Concept:

Gravity always acts on the Centre of Mass of an object. The direction of the gravity vector is always directed towards the centre of the Earth. Hence, the acceleration vector is perpendicular to the Earth surface. That means, the body falls at an angle of 0° (zero degree) to the vertical.

The object doesn't fall at angle because there is no acceleration vector in the horizontal direction.

Neither the object has any initial Velocity in the horizontal direction, nor does it have a horizontal acceleration. So, the body falls vertically downwards.

Please refer to the diagram to understand better.

Answer:

i. The force with which earth attracts any object is directed towards the centre of the earth .

ii. At any given position of a falling object, the direction from the falling object to the centre of the earth quake s vertically downward.

hence, any object on Earth will fall vertically downward.

Thank you..
