Answer : Atoms are electrically neutral because

Explanation : In most of the cases number of electron is equal to the number of protons in the atom . Electron are negatively charged and protons are positively charged . For example take helium suppose the helium atom has 2 electon and it obvious that it has one neutron and two proton .

Proton carry +2 charge while electron carry -2 charge

+2-2=0

Hence the atom is neutral .

Note : Neutron carry neutral charge so it has not any effect on the atom electrically.
