Give reason: Only the carom coin at the bottom of a pile is removed when a fast moving carom coin (or striker) hits it.

this is because all the other carom coins contain inertia. refer to newtons first law of motion. It is due to their inertia that they tend to remain at at rest i.e. where they were originally placed.

This is because of the potential energy of the pile. The above coins tend to remain at rest. That is why the below coin is replaced without moving the pile.
