Pancreas is a dual gland i.e. it is both endocrine and exocrine.
Its exocrine secretion is pancreatic juice which contains different digestive enzymes like pancreatic amylase, pancreatic lipase etc which help in digestion of food.
Whereas its endocrine secretion include insulin, glucagon and somatostatin which regulates the blood sugar levels.
Thus pancreas helps in digestion and also regulates blood sugar level

Pancreas helps in digestion and in regulating blood sugar level – Reason:

  • Pancreas is works as an exocrine and endocrine glands. It helps in the digestion and as well as maintain blood sugar level in the body.
  • The exocrine cell of the pancreas produces lipase, protease and amylase enzymes.
  • Lipases works on the fats, proteases breaks proteins and amylase works on carbohydrates.
  • The endocrine cell of the “pancreas secretes insulin and glucagon” which maintain the balance of the sugar level in the blood.
  • When sugar level is very high then the insulin lowers the level but when sugar level is very low then glucagon increases the sugar level.
