Phosphorus, being a very reactive substance, is very reactive in air, more precisely oxygen therefore it is stored in Water!

Phosphorus reacts vigorously with oxygen present in air.So it is kept in water to prevent it's contact with oxygen as in water hydrogen content is greater than oxygen.
