Give reason platypus and achidna are egg laying animal
Answers
The platypus, found only in Australia is one of the five mammal species of that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. The other egg-laying mammals are four species of echidna. The reason that odd, egg-laying mammals still exist today may be because their ancestors took to the water, scientists now suggest.
The platypus and the echidna are both egg-laying mammals. They are classified as mammals because they have mammary glands .so,they feed their young on mothers' milk - a characteristic unique to mammals alone. They possess mammalian features. In addition to these features, they also possess some of the reptilian features. These are considered as primitive mammals with both mammalian and reptilian features. Like reptiles, they lay eggs as reptiles. They also have cloaca, a single opening to pass out, urine, faeces, sperms or eggs. This is a reptilian feature. Like mammals, monotremes are warm blooded animals whoce body is covered with fur. They also nourish their young.
