The salinity and temperature of water causes ocean currents
Explanation:
- The heating causes expansion in water molecules of the ocean.
- The place created by this expansion is generally occupied by salt and other molecules like calcium.
- The solubility of salt increases in warm water.
- So,the warmer water the more salt and other molecules the ocean water can hold as compared to that of cold water.
- Due to he increased salinity , the water will start to sink.
- This will start a convection current.
- It means the cold water can overlane warm water , if the salinity of warm water is high enough.
- The natural flow of a current can be reversed based on density, salinity and temperature of the ocean water.
