The full form of the SIMA is Silica and Magnesium . The lower portion of the earth is composed of SIMA. The SIAL is much lighter than the SIMA, that's why the SIAL floats over SIMA layer. SIAL is said to be continental crust and SIMA is called oceanic crust.
