Stars emit their own light and they twinkle due to the atmospheric refraction of light. Stars are very far away from the earth. Hence, they are considered as point sources of light.

because star appear twinkling the refractive index is not constant but change due to atmospheric refraction of starlight annd planet are close to earth in comparison to star are present very far distant so they show as large source of light but the light does not suffer large refraction so we do not detect any change in brightness of light
