Arteries are vessels that carry blood from the heart and supply it to the other organs of the body.

The functioning f the arteries can be divided into two parts.

The first being the Pulmonary artery which carries impure blood from the heart to the lungs and the other being the rest of the arteries which carry pure blood from the heart to other organs.

Answer:

The reason is that the impure pumped away from heart so that is goes to kidney/lung for purification/oxidation and then it comes again and then pumped to the rest of the body. So this thing is known as double circulation as the blood is pumped two times for a single beat
