The molecules of a gas when heated, gain more kinetic energy and travel in faster spreads compared to cooled gases that have very low kinetic energy. Similarly, when hot food is placed, the fragrant vapours from it have gas molecules travelling with higher velocity than those from cold foods. So, they reach greater distances and diffuse more easily.

gaseous state of matter highly diffuses in air fastly

The smell of hot sizzling food reaches you several metres away because the particle present in food is in gaseous state and it has high temperature and it's kinetic energy is highso it diffuses in air and reaches several meters away while to get the smell from cold food you have to go to close because it has lower temperature it cannot diffuse fast in air and it's kinetic energy is low it cannot move .
