the valency of oxygen is 2 bcoz

it needs it needs 2 electrons to get its octet

As an element can have maximum of 8 electrons in its valence shell,

and oxygen has 6 electrons (more than 4), 2 is the smallest no: to be filled in it.

if the number of electrons in valance shell is less than 4 then that number will be the valency...........hope u will understand.......pls mark my answer as brainliest........pls feel free to ask doubts to me.
