70% Isopropyl alchohol or ethanol is rubbed on the injection site to disinfect the skin so that the needle of the syringe does not drive in bacteria into the blood stream and cause septicemia or blood poisoning which may lead to septicemia and inflammation of the body, heart failure or loss of protein synthesis which causes blood to clot . It might cause acute lung problem also. The problems are so large that a little caution is very useful.
