Zinc nitrate (soluble in water) dissolves in water and is reversible. No change in composition takes place is a physical change whereas zinc reacts with dil. nitric acid to produce H2 gas which gets oxidized to water by nitric acid (oxidizing agent) and hence is a chemical change.

When Zinc nitrate is pored in the water it does not react with water. It dissociates into the ions Zn⁺ and NO₃²⁻ . No zinc hydroxide is formed. Thus addition of Zinc nitrate into the water is a Physical change, as chemical properties of zinc nitrate in water remain while zinc reacts with dil. nitric acid to produce H2 gas which gets oxidized to water by nitric acid (oxidizing agent) and hence is a chemical change.
