Answer:

Why are algae considered plant-like? The main reason is that they contain chloroplasts and produce food through photosynthesis. However, they lack many other structures of true plants

Algae have many features that are very similar to plants.

  • One of the major similarities between algae and plants is that they are both photosynthetic in nature. Both contain chloroplasts and they are autotrophs.
  • In fact, algae are the lowest group in the classification of kingdom Plantae. Thy are considered as the first forms of vegetation to evolve.
  • The fungi are also structurally similar to plants. have a leaf-like 'frond', a stem-like 'stipe' and a root-like 'holdfast'. They are primarily aquatic-both marine and freshwater.
  • Algae can reproduce vegetatively by fragmentation. Asexual reproduction is by zoospores and sexual reproduction may be isogamous or anisogamous.
