INTRODUCTION:
The waste generated from various sources can be categorized into two types-
1.Biodegradable waste and
2.Non-Biodegradable waste.
The broken glass utensils are a kind of non-biodegradable waste because of the following reasons:
1.These substances cannot be degraded by microbes into harmless and non-toxic substances or broken down into simple substances,making nutrients adversely affect the quality of soil /its fertility.
2.Years together it does not degrade into the soil.
3.It adds pollution to the environment.
Other examples of these categories are`aluminium cans,plastics,glass,DDT (chemical fertilizers) etc.

Broken glass utensils are a kind of non-degradable waste. The reason is that glass cannot be decomposed. For the glass to not cause any harm it needs to be disposed off in deep dug pits. Although, broken glass in huge quantities can be used in glass industry after melting it down.
