The main problems include the supply of raw materials, lack of modernization o f plant and machinery, fluctuating production o f jute goods, tough competition from substitutes, high prices ofjute goods, inefficient management, dependency on the export market, insufficient power supply, growing labour problem, low productivity of the manpower, corruption of mill owners, and Government reluctance etc. The problems jointly ruin the hope ofthe age-old industry of the region.
