These processes in which some animals like frog and dormouse hibernate in burrows are called hibernation and aestivation.Hibernation is winter sleep and aestivation is summer sleep.
Reasons:-
Actually, they take long sleep underground to overcome the difficulties on the land.They go through these in order to overcome either hot climatic conditions or cold climatic conditions.In this way they want to protect themselves from hot summer and cold winter.
