Give reason why gold ornaments retain their lustre

Because gold is least reactive metal and don't react with gases auch as co2,o2,h2s and water vapours and doesn't undergo corrosion such as silver.and thus gold ornaments retain their lustre
Silver reacts with h2s and form silver sulphide and turns black when exposed to air after some time

Gold is at the bottom in the reactivity series..and doesn't react with any molecules easily.. therefore any new compound is not formed.. That's why gold ornaments look new and doesn't lose their lustre..
