Subcontinent means a large relatively self contained landmass forming a subdivision of continent.
India is a subcontinent because:
1. it is separated from continent Asia by Himalayas in the north.
2. it is a big landmass and has a distinct geographical unit from the rest of the continent.
3. it has its own climatic characterstics and cultural identity.
