Mahatma Gandhi was first called as “Father of Nation” by Subhash Chandra Bose.

In 1944 Bose moved the headquarter of INA to Rangoon, so as to start an offensive against British India with the help of Japanese.

This offensive is known as Operation U Go . This offensive began on March 8 and on April 14 , INA forces led by Shaukat Ali Malik unfurled the Indian flag - saffron, white and green stamped with Bose’s leaping tiger- in Moirang.

After this victory Bose spoke directly to Mahatma Gandhi over the radio on July 6. He addressed him as the “Father of our Nation”, it was the first time Mahatma Gandhi was thus called.

Later on April 28, 1947 , Sarojini Naidu also referred to Mahatma Gandhi with same title.

Though there is no official honorific title accorded to Mahatma Gandhi as “Father of our Nation”.But as a legacy of Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi has been called as the Father of our Nation.
