while nonmetals tend to form anions. With one, two, or three valence electrons metals tend to lose electrons to achieve a noble gas configuration. (It would require more energy to gain the 5 – 7 electrons needed to fill their valence shell.)

Because metal has a capability to loose electrons so they form cations and whereas non metals has an ability to accept the electrons so they aqure negative charge
