The moon has no atmosphere. During daytime the surface gets very hot as there is no air to stop sun's rays and at night it gets very cold because there is no air to trap heat.

Reason for moon experiences a large range of temperature:

Both the earth, a planet and its satellite, the moon are bodies both receiving sunlight from the same source. The point of difference strikes in the moon having no atmosphere, thus, failing to reflect or trap this heat.

Whereas on the other hand, earth has its own atmosphere, where the sunlight is absorbed in the process of Greenhouse effect and is released as infrared radiation. Since the moon does not have an atmosphere, the temperature sores as high as 127 degree Celsius and -173 degree Celsius.

The moon has the lunar-day-night cycle that is about 27 earth days, where the moon’s surface receives 13 days of continuous day and 13 days of total darkness. No matter how high the temperature is, the heat is instantaneously lost as it hits lunar night.

Thus, moon has the most extreme surface thermal environment in the entire solar system, falling only after Mercury.
