When we add sugar to water, as sugar is very small in size.......it adjusts between the inter molecular space in water molecule....and therefore total space is filled.....so the volume of water doesnt rise

this is because the sugar on dissolving gets into the empty spaces of water molecules known as voids and hence there is no increase in volume of water
