Not always, but in general sandy soil can’t hold water sufficiently (less water holding capacity) and that is because of its texture. Also, because of sand particles don’t have surface charges like clay particles therefore the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of sandy soil is always low and that make it hard to hold nutrients such as K+, NH4+, Mg++, they all almost gone easily by leaching (washed out) with the irrigation water.
