1. Crops that are suitable to the winter climate, low temperature, needing more water are cultivated in winter.
Crops suitable to high temperature, needing less water are cultivated in summer.
Also, use of nutrients in the soil is balanced by a good combination of crops.
2. Nutrients required for good growth, better health, pest resistance, higher productivity are added to soil by adding manure.
3. Soil is ploughed or tiled for making soil loose, more uniform, have more air gaps, to facilitate water or nutrient flow to the seeds and to the roots of the plants.
4. Drip irrigation needs less water. The water is fed only to the roots. Water is fed continuously. Less water evaporates into air. Sprinklers also wet the land between plants and drench the leaves and stem. So more water is used.
5. Leguminous plants are very good at Nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen from atmosphere is naturally absorbed by the plant. Nutrients with N2 are stored in the root modules. Then Bacteria in the soil helps soil become more fertile. So less of fertilizer is needed. Healthier crops can be produced in deficient soils.

some crops are grown in summer because they need more water and require hot conditions to grow. They are sown during the month of June and July and are harvested in September and October before winter.example :kharif crops, such as:bajra, jowar, soya bean.

And some crops are grown in winter season because they need less water and require low temperature to grow. They are sown during the month of October and December and are harvested in March and April.example:rabi crops, such as: wheat, mustard, gram, pea.
