A mixture of oil and water retains their constituents properties this is beacuse :
1. Both oil and water have differvt densities so their mixing is impossible.
2. If we burn oil hanging on water then it burns, this means that oil have it's property of burning.
3. They can easily be separated by help of decantation this means that they don't have interchange their properties while mixing.

To answer this question. we must know : -
• What is a mixture ?
=> Mixture are those substances in which which retain the properties of its constituent substances. It does not have a fixed chemical composition. The substances can be separated from the mixture by physical methods.
• What is a heterogeneous mixture ?
=> Heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which two substances are non - uniformly mixed together i.e we can distinguish particles of one substance from the other easily by seeing by our eyes .
• What is a homogeneous mixture?
=> Homogeneous mixtures are those mixtures in which two substances are mixed uniformly i.e we cannot distinguish particles of one substance from the particles of the other substance by seeing by our eyes.
So now lets come to the main question.
Main solution :- A mixture of oil and water retain the properties of its constituents because it's a. It is a heterogeneous mixture because the mixture of oil and water can be separated by using separating funnel.
