Hey dude,

Baking powder is mixed with the flour. When water is added to this flour to make dough, baking powder undergoes a chemical reaction during which carbon dioxide gas is produced. This carbon dioxide gas gets trapped into the dough and bubbles out which causes the cake to rise making it soft and spongy.

BAKING POWDER IS ADDED TO CAKES TO MAKE IT SOFT AND SPONGY........

On heating, baking powder gives NaCO3 and hydrogen gas. In baker industries, baking powder is added to dough when dough is baked, baking powder decomposes and gives CO2 gas. This gas releases out and makes the dough soft and fluffy
