Answer: Aluminium is preferred because it can protect copper from being attacked by rust i.e. losing its lusture after coming in contact with the open atmosphere (mainly oxygen) . Also rusted copper is much harmful for daily uses as cooking utensils.

Explanation:

In the electromagnetic series aluminum is placed in a lower position with respect to copper and as it's known metals placed at higher positions in electromagnetic series are highly reactive & metals placed at lower positions are less reactive - so copper being highly reactive can be affected by rust if kept un-electroplated by any low reactive metal. So aluminum being less reactive is electroplated over copper cooking utensils so that utensils might not get affected by rust and not harm living beings.

Hope this may help you.
