mughals ruled india from1526 to 1858 there were both imperial and weak rulers. The mughals glorified from Babur to aurangazeb rule. The mughal empire started declining during the period of weak rulers.
The main reasons are:
1)the weak rulers their administrative weakness
2)the rise of regional kingdoms like marathas
3)the foreign invasions which made them ecomically weak like invasion of nadirshah
4) involvement of british
5) capture of bahadurshah2
6)the selfish nobles who declared independence by taking the advantage of weak rulers

Answer:
# The successive rulers after Aurangzeb were weak, unworthy and lacked the character, motivation and commitment to rule the empire strongly.
# Aurangzeb’s policies made enemies of the Rajputs, Sikhs, Jats and the Marathas.
# His frequent wars depleted the treasury.
# The raids by Nadir Shah, and repeated invasions of Ahmad Shah Abdali, resulted in further weakening of the empire.
# The already weakened empire faced further encroachment by the British and the French. The British and French, who had initially come as traders, took full advantage of the weakening empire and soon became masters of the whole of India.
