Give reasons for the following (1 each)

a) liquids take up the shape of the container in which they are kept

b) liquids are more compressible than solids

a). Liquids assume the shape of their container because the bonds between the molecules are too weak to form or maintain any kind of ‘structure’, so they slip past each other and assume the shape of whatever is containing them.

b).liquids are usually more compressible than solids because there is more space between the particles of a liquid than there is between a solid.

liquid have less intersecting force and is a particle are very far from each other and are compressible
